NHP Westway

A renovation of an existing office building underneath the A40 Westway road next to Ladbroke Grove Station. The redevelopment will create a retail unit at ground floor level on the high street and a school at first floor level. The works include installation of new curtain walling, alterations to provide more space and light from the glazed elevations and making the existing structural elements safe. Lyons O’Neill were appointed to provide a design up to tender stage and have since acted as a checking engineer to ensure the final design is satisfactory to our client. Prior to the change of use design, LON performed a detailed assessment of the existing structure which included concrete scanning and intrusive geotechnical investigations as well as calculations and 3D modelling to gain a sound understanding of the existing building. At the time of writing, the existing cladding has been removed with new steelwork for the portalised frames and ceiling supports are being installed and mullions for the curtain walls are being fixed.

Burr Road

We are currently working on a scheme for a new 5 storey mixed use office and workshop development in Wimbledon. Working with the Architect we are researching different construction techniques to achieve a robust yet economical structure. The structure will be highly exposed integrating the structural elements with the architecture. Our challenge is to combine practical construction methods with industrial and robust finishes.

Addison Road

This project required some integrated temporary works and clear understanding of the building process. The rear two storey structure in the rear elevation was required to hover above the glass rear extension. We achieved this by using the mass of the main structure and cantilevering two steel beams out to pick it up. By inserting a new raft below the building, we were able to redistribute loads evenly eliminating any differential movement.
